Using predictive text input
Predictive text input is an easy way to write for example text messages and
reminder notes. In this input method, you only need to press a key once for each
letter.
According to your keypresses, the phone tries to find the correct word from the
currently selected dictionary. (For selecting a dictionary, see page
41
.)
When you want to use predictive text input, check that
is shown at the top
of the display.
You can switch between predictive and traditional text input by pressing
twice.
Note that predictive text input may use Unicode characters. For more information,

1. Write the desired word by pressing each key once for one letter.
For example, to write ‘Nokia’, press:
As you can see in the illustration above, the word changes after each keypress.
Therefore you don’t need to pay much attention to what happens on the
display before you have keyed in the whole word.

• To delete a character to the left, press
.
• To switch between letter cases, press
repeatedly and check the
indicator at the top of the display. For example, abc is shown when the
lower case is in use.
• To insert a number, press and hold the desired number key.
To insert several numbers, press and hold

2. When you have finished writing the word, check that the word is correct.
If the word is correct: Press
and write the next word.
If the word is not correct: Press
repeatedly until the desired word
appears. For an alternative method, see step 3.
If the ? character is shown after the word: There are no further words in the
dictionary that correspond to your keypresses. To add a word in the dictionary:

Spell
), key in the word using traditional text input, and press

).

Matches
: Shows a list of words that correspond to your keypresses. Scroll to
the desired word and press

Insert word
: Allows you to add a word to the dictionary manually. Write the
word using traditional text input and press

Insert number
: Allows you to key in numbers by pressing each number key
